Introduction to ISBN and ISSN
ISBN (International Standard Book Number) refers to international standard number for non-serial publications.

ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) refers to international standard number for serial publications.
A present of these two numbers means the publication has been registered in international ISBN or ISSN organization, and the publication has met the international standard. The background information of the publication can be obtained through checking with the numbers, and therefore the confidence the readers have for the publisher can be reinforced.
Application of ISBN
Applicable Range of ISBN :
10 book numbers can be acquired for one ISBN application. They are applicable for books, brochures, microcopies, educational TV programs or movies, mixed-media publications, microcomputer software, maps and electronic publications.
Documents Needed for ISBN Application :
1. Copies of business registration certificate of approved Hong Kong publisher registered and copies of applicant's identity card or passport;
2. Valid address in Hong Kong;
3. 5 to 7 copies of the book must be submitted to concerned authorities for filing and registration after it is published.
Application of ISSN

Types of visa

In accordance with their status and the types of passports they hold, different aliens coming to China shall be issued diplomatic, courtesy, service or ordinary visas respectively. Ordinary visa shall be marked with different phonetic letters and issued to different aliens according to their stated purposes of visit to China.
Visa D to aliens who are to reside permanently in China.
Visa Z to aliens who come to China to take up posts or employment and to their accompanying family members.
Visa X to aliens who come to China for study, advanced study or job-training for a period of six months or more.
Visa F to aliens who are invited to China on a visit or study, lecture or business tour, for scientific-technological or cultural exchange, for short-term refresher course or for job-training, for a period of more six months.
Visa L to aliens who come to China for sight-seeing, visiting relatives or other private purposes. A group visa may be issued to a group of nine or more aliens on a sight-seeing trip to China.
Visa G to aliens passing through China.
Visa C to train attendants, air crew members and seaman operating international services, and to their accompanying family members.
Visa J-1 to resident foreign correspondents in China;
Visa J-2 to foreign correspondents that make short trip to China on reporting tasks.

Requirements for Permanent Residence Permit
You Should Submit: (a) Valid Passport or equivalent; (b) Health certificate issued at state level; (c) Credentials proving no criminal record by China embassies or consulates; (d) Two passport photos, no hat; (e) Other relevant credentials if required.
Fees: The fee for the new green card certificate is 300 yuan or about US$36. The cost of getting a new card is 1500 yuan or about US$180.
Time: The agency is open from Monday to Saturday, 8:30 to 12:00 in the morning, 13:00 to 17:00 in the afternoon.
In order to qualify for permanent residence status, you must fulfill at least one of the following criteria:
I. Be a high-level foreign expert holding a post which promotes China's economic, scientific and technological development, or social progress.
II. Have made outstanding contributions of special importance to China
III. Have made a large direct investment of over US$ 500,000 in China
IV. Have come to China to be with your family, such as spouse, dependent minors or senior citizens

Application Procedures for Permanent Residence P
I. Submit an application to a city-level Public Security Bureau or at the county-level branch of the Public Security Bureau directly responsible for the community of the applicant's major investment or long-term residence.
II. Provide the specified application documents.
III. The public security body shall investigate and verify the conditions of the applicant according to the specified pre-requisites.
IV. The local department will submit the application to the Ministry of Public Security for examination and approval.
V. The ministry shall decide whether to approve or reject the application for permanent residence permit within 6 months of receiving the application.
VI. Upon the approval of the Ministry of Public Security, the applicant will be granted a Foreigner Permanent Residency Permit by the Ministry of Public Security.
A Chinese permanent residence card is not equivalent to Chinese nationality. Presently China does not recognize dual or multiple nationalities. Thus, if one wants to become a Chinese national, original nationality status would have to be cancelled.
Those who obtain a Chinese permanent residence card should not stay in China less than three months in a year or less than a year in five years. Special causes will need approval from city level public security bureaus.
Expats with a Chinese permanent residence card will still need to observe rules concerning traveling, temporary living in other cities, and visiting areas closed to the public

The types of residence permit and how to apply f
Aliens' residence cards are issued to those who stay in China for one year or more. Aliens' temporary residence cards are issued to those who stay less than one year in China.
Aliens holding visas D, Z, X, or J-1 shall, within 30 days of entry into China, obtain aliens' residence cards from the city or county public security bureau at the place of their residence. The period of the validity of the aforementioned certificates is the duration of the holder' permitted stay in China.
Aliens holding visas F, L, G, C or J-2 may stay in China for the period prescribed in their visas without obtaining residence certificates.
In applying for residence certificates, aliens shall provide such information as requested and complete the following procedures
Submit for examination their passports, visas and papers supporting their purposes of residence;
Fill in residence application form;
In applying for aliens' residence cards, submit for examination health certificates and recently-taken two-inch half-length, bareheaded, full-faced photos.

Accommodation Registration
For lodging at guesthouse, hotel, inn, hostel. School or other enterprises and institutions or at government organs or other Chinese organization, aliens shall present valid passports or residence certificates and fill in registration form of temporary accommodation. They shall present travel permits when seeking accommodation in areas closed to aliens. When an alien wishes to lodge at the home of a Chinese resident in urban areas, the host or the lodger shall within 24 hours of the lodger's passport and certificates as well as the host's residence booklet and fill in registration from of temporary accommodation. In rural areas, the host or lodger shall report to local police stations or residence registration office within 72 hours of the lodger's arrival. When an alien lodges at a foreign institution in China or at the home of an alien in China, the institution or the host or the lodger shall, within 24 hours of the lodger's arrival, report to the local public security organ with lodger's passport or residence certificate and fill in registration forms of temporary accommodation. Aliens who lodge temporarily in movable facilities shall, with 24 hours of arrival, report to the local public security organ. The institutions or individuals that furnish sites for the aliens movable living facilities shall report to local public security organ 24 hours ahead of time.
